At Jageshwar there are a cluster of temples mostly dedicated to Shiv. Located in a narrow valley near Almora, Uttarakhand, the temples date back to 9th century. The valley is covered with dense Deodar forests and is a pleasure to walk along. The road is mostly isolated with a few small shops until it reaches the cluster of temples. Then there is the usual visual cacophony of shops and people.
During the autumn of 2016,  I was riding out of Nainital and happened to cross the area. Few Km into the Jageshwar valley, I was caught by a sudden thunderstorm and took shelter in a tea shop. It was a cold afternoon and as my tea boiled, the shop owner caught a few winks.

Centuries Old Friendship

A stream flows by the Jageshwar Temple as it has been for centuries maintaining company to the temple and quenching the thirst of countless pilgrims.

When the rain stopped, I descended down to the stream and made multiple shots, some exposing for the flowing water and others  for the temple and the sky.
The above picture is a digitally blended (traditional name for HDR) composite using the technique explained in LuLa website.

In the Shadow of Gods

Sun rises on the Nanda Devi peaks while villagers carry on with their morning routine.

Took this picture in Nov of 2014 when I was on the way to Munsiyari on a motorbike. My first halt for the night was at KMVN guest house, Choukori. This picture was taken from the balcony of the room, just as the sun hit the mountain peaks.

In the shadows, the villagers carry on their daily life unperturbed by the beauty around the. On the left below you can see kids assembling to go to school. In front of the house a woman is drying clothes.

Sunrise over the Panchachuli Peaks.
I took this shot from the grounds of Nanda Devi temple in Munshiyari. These Himalayan peaks are towards the east and sun rises exactly behind them, giving an aura to the peaks. The picture is a subtle HDR of three shots to try to preserve some texture on the top mountain peaks.
