Kebab Seller

A Kebab seller at the Iftar Stalls on MM Road, Bangalore

Every year, Ramadan time presents a great opportunity to food lovers to indulge in some excellent non-vegetarian street food. There are street stalls in several parts of the city and one can choose from a pick of locations.
It is also a great opportunity to do some night street photography. This year I went to MM Road on Frazer town for my annual dose. For the photos I choose to focus on the people rather than the food.
I was photographing a young boy across the street when his soliciting cry caught my ears – “kebab, Kebab, Kebaaaaaaaaaaaaab….”. I turned around to see him across the street calling out to a group of college kids who had turned up for an evening of revelry.
His Afghani cap stood out amidst the other stall keepers.
This picture was taken a little later when I crossed over to his stall and sampled some of his kebab’s which were excellent.

I found this boy manning a kebab grill dishing out some fabulous meat. The heat and the smoke made it a sweaty evening. Yet though the discomfort, he was smiling throughout the time I was at his stall.

I found this gentleman overseeing a group of 5 stalls manned by young boys selling a variety of item. A word to the boy lighting up the coal, another to the one grilling the kebabs, a handful of spices in one mixing bowl and a touch of rearrangement to the beautifully placed mutton samosas – skillfully orchestrating the entire show.

Street food during Ramzan in Bangalore, India

During Ramzan, there are streets in Bangalore which turn into non-veg food lovers paradise. For me it has become an annual ritual to visit one of those streets both for the food and photography. The picture above is from one of such visits. While the picture cannot convey the flavor and aroma of food cooking over fire, it does reflect the environment.
